Established in December 2019, the directorate’s primary responsibility revolves around the collection, exchange and use of intelligence. The directorate furnishes other components of the Agency with credible, actionable intelligence―in the form of target profile analysis, market profiles, criminal business profiles, net worth analysis, operational intelligence assessment and risk analysis etc―which facilitates proactive policing, targeting/disruption of criminal networks in drug trafficking and production.

Among its other duties, the Directorate of Intelligence is responsible for:

  1. Visa clearance on intending travelers to drug source countries.
  2. Maintaining criminal database.
  3. Coordination of the exchange of intelligence with foreign collaborators.
  4. Coordination of the exchange of intelligence with foreign collaborators.
  5. Supervision and coordination of activities of NDLEA liaison officers in foreign missions, Interpol, ONSA etc.
  6. Liaising with other Law Enforcement Agencies and stakeholders in Nigeria in the sharing of intelligence.
  7. Polygraph and Vetting of staff of the Agency.
